Recycling
Recycling is important. By using materials more than once, we conserve natural resources and the energy required to produce and process new materials. When an item is buried in a landfill, the raw materials that went into its production are lost forever. Recycling diverts waste from landfills and conserves landfill capacity for nonrecyclables. Not only does recycling benefit the environment, it creates jobs and business opportunities.
Everyone at Delta College can participate in the recycling program. It only requires small changes in your daily routine. A successful recycling program takes the cooperation and dedication of everyone. Together we can make a difference. It's an opportunity to make an investment in long-term solutions.
How to participate
Participating in the recycling program begins with desk-side collection. Individuals can sort materials between their desk-side recycling tote and wastebasket. When your desk-side tote is full, deposite your materials into the nearest green collection bin.
To request a desk-side tote or report a full green collection bin, contact Facilities Management via a work order.

Universal waste
Materials other than common trash, recycled paper and plastic products are generally referred to as universal waste and include such items as electronics, lamps, batteries, mercury and computer components. Additionally, some universal materials may be of a sensitive nature and may require data destruction before reusing or recycling.
Computer media may be considered data-sensitive if they post licensing issues, contain software applications, utility data, or student/employee data. To determine the appropriate method of collection, reuse, or recycling of electronic equipment contact Facilities Management via a work order.
Hazardous Materials, those requiring a Safety Data Sheet (SDS), include items such as paints, solvents, oils and cleaning products. For proper use and disposal, please refer to the SDS binder located in service areas where the products are used, visit the online Safety Data Sheet Inventory on the Facilities Management website, or contact facilities@delta.edu.
Large printer cartidges can be recycled or refilled indefinitely. Refilling is environmenally friendly and cost effective at 20% less than buying new. To refill the cartidge, return it to Shipping and Receiving in P108. To recycle the cartidge without refilling it, tag the cartidge with a note "Do Not Refill" and Shipping and Receiving in P108. No requisition is needed for a return without refill.
E-waste, such as campus-generated batteries and other electronics can be delivered to Shipping and Receiving for recycling/disposal. If needed, a Facilities staff member will meet with you to review materials and detemine the most cost effective and safe disposal method. Contact facilities@delta.edu for assistance.
