Well-Time

Summary

Well-time, together with the Delta College Wellness Program, promotes healthy lifestyles and overall well-being. The goal is to provide an opportunity for all employees to improve their physical, occupational, social, financial, spiritual and emotional fitness to benefit their health, overall quality of life, job satisfaction, morale, and personal relationships with fellow workers.

Procedures

Full-time employees may choose to participate in well-time and/or wellness program  activities with their supervisor's approval as follows:

  1. Employees can use up to 1.5  hours per day, three days per week which is the maximum time allowed for the program.  Variations to this schedule may be approved by the supervisor but may not exceed 4.5 hours per week.
    • Examples:
      1. Employee uses the maximum well-time of 4.5 hours per week
        • The employee uses 1.5 hours of well-time, three days per week.
        • On those days, the 1.5 hours replace all scheduled breaks and lunch periods.
        • The 1.5 hours includes preparation time, time needed to get to and from the activity, and participation in the wellness activity.
      2. Employee uses 1 hour of well-time, four days per week
        • The employee uses a total of 4 hours of well-time during the week.
        • To accommodate the well-time, the employee would forgo their lunch period on all four days and two scheduled breaks during the week.
      3. Employee uses 30 minutes of well-time, five days per week
        • The employee uses a total of 2.5 hours of well-time during the week.
        • To accommodate the well-time, the employee would forgo either four scheduled break periods or two lunch periods, or an equivalent combination approved by their supervisor.
      4. Employee chooses to take all their scheduled breaks and lunch period for the week, they are allowed up to 1.5 hours of well-time (30 minutes, three times a week).
      5. Employee chooses to attend a wellness program activity, such as a wellness education session or painting/craft instruction, the time spent attending the activity will count toward the 4.5 hours of wellness time allotted for use during that week. The requirement to forego lunch or break periods, as described in this procedure, will apply.
  2. Prior approval by each supervisor is required (including executive staff, approved by the President).
  3. All activities must take place at Delta College.*
  4. Well-time is not intended to occur at the beginning or end of the workday.
  5. These wellness guidelines are intended for full-time employees only. However, part time employees may participate in wellness program activities with the approval of their supervisor.
  6. Well-time may be different in each department and should be flexible due to differing work situations.  
  7. Supervisors reserve the right to modify an employee’s wellness schedule at any time to ensure adequate staffing levels and that departmental operational and workload requirements are met.
  8. Employees who are currently on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) are ineligible to participate in the wellness program until the Performance Improvement Plan has been successfully completed

Participation

All full-time regular employees are encouraged to participate in well-time and activities through the wellness program to the greatest extent possible within the limits of college policies at a maximum of 4.5 hours per week.  Supervisors are asked to cooperate in enabling employees to participate to the extent possible within policy limits and the workload of their offices.

*With exception of the Delta College golf league.
